The heart of Haarlem is the Grote Markt, the lively market square overlooked by the Saint Bavo church and lined with numerous cafés and restaurants. At the north side of the square stands the statue of Laurens Janszoon Coster, who according to the locals invented the printings press serveral years before the German Gutenberg, although there in not much evidence to support that claim.
