Kom Ombo is an industrial town 45km north of Aswan. Its classical name was Ombos, its ancient name, Nebet, and it was strategically placed between Edfu and Aswan as a garrison town on an important trading route. The Ptolemaic temple and ancient town site is a few kilometres from the modern town on a promontory on the east bank of the Nile. The temple is very unusual. It was dedicated to two triads of deities, each with their own associated chambers and sanctuaries.
