Graduating from college, to me, means more than just finishing the program. It is to be independent from my parents, both financially and emotionally. Throughout my senior year at college I wanted to create a film about mother and daughter relationship, especially one that is entangled and rather awkward to explain through words. This film is about a daughter leaving her house to start new life. To the daughter the departure is emotional, but her mother shows no interest. In fact, the mother has nothing to be interested in the present. All she does is to stitch, as if she could sew back the good old days in the past. The journey of the daughter continues until she encounters with a giant shadow of a flying whale. The sound of the whale calls her will to be free, to take off from her mother’s ground. The ending of the film is my statement about my relationship with my mother. The closing house shows the fact that I will never be free from my mother’s influence. However, I gave the house legs so it can continue the journey by itself. Its steps are slow and its legs are feeble, but the most importantly, it is still able to continue the journey.
