The West End Library Friends held a public meeting on Saturday, July 14, 2007 in Georgetown, Washington, DC. EastBanc, a private developer that was granted rights to the library property by and of "emergency legislation" passed by the DC City Council on July 10, 2007, was invited to speak about their plans to redevelop the parcel of land upon which the library sits. The meeting attendees were clearly concerned about the process of appropriating public land into private hands. Neither the Friends of West End Library nor the local Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners had a say in this process. Calls for transparency and proper public input were made.
