t is in Gorée, in the former workshop of his master, Moustapha Dime, that Gabriel Kemzo Malou chose to live and work. In this Portuguese fort facing the ocean, Gabriel crafts wood and metal, his favorite materials. Gabriel is a mancagne artist. He was born in Ziguinchor and it was his love of art, his need to create, that brought him first to Dakar, then to Gorée, in the footsteps of Dime. In his workshop, Gabriel talks to the camera. Forcefully, letting his anger or enthusiasm get the better of him, the sculptor shares the keys of his art with us. How he is possessed by this place, this sanctuary, at once the home of his Master's spirit yet forever marked by history.
