"Underneath every NY street, lies a buried treasure". This NY treasure is Danny McLaughlin, aka "pipidaddy". Danny started playing the pipes in 1988 in Manchester England at the age of 12 and later went onto play the mandolin and banjo . The history of the Uillean pipes date back around 300 or 400 hundred years ago as they are today. Native to Ireland they are related to other bag pipes but are different in appearance, and sound. They are a bellows blown instrument and are not blown into by mouth like the highland or (Scottish pipes), the pipes you see on St. Patrick’s Day worn with kilts. The uillean pipes or (Irish pipes) also have two octaves on the chanter instead of one, like the highland pipes .The name uillean (pronounced illan) is the Gaelic word for elbow, and when played both elbows are moved in and out, "kind of like a chicken".
