Coamo is known as La Villa Añeja or Old Village and was founded in July 15th. 1579 by Cristobal and Blas de Illescas. It is one of the oldest towns on the Island. The town’s original name was San Blas de Illescas. Its population is a little over 37,000. It is famous for its thermal springs known as Los Baños de Coamo famous for their healing and therapeutic waters.
