Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has been chosen as the 2007 Sports Illustrated "Sportsman of the Year" for symbolizing in character and performance the ideals of sportsmanship. Favre's Sportsman credentials include an impressive history of philanthropy. In 1996, Favre established the Brett Favre Fourward Foundation, which has donated more than $4 million to charities in Wisconsin and his home state of Mississippi, including $1 million raised to assist Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties on Mississippi's Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
