This is a draft video. There are some mistakes. Bodhi Manda is a Zen Center not a monastery. Joshu Sasaki Roshi leads 18, seven-day Dai-sesshins a year, not 30. -- still impressive for a man over 100 years old!
The film is in two parts on revver.com. Search the title "Bodhidharma's Shoe" for the second part.
This film will eventually end up on www.folkstreams.net which is a web site I created with support from both National Endowments to show documentaries about American Roots cultures.
The Zen poem about "Mu" is adapted from from the Japanese Zen poet/master Sengai and translated by Norman Waddell. It is found in Robert Aitken's commentary on "Joshu's Dog" in Aitken's "The Gateless Barrier", North Point Press.
